Greetings from Chairperson.

Hello Everyone! I'm Sangho Shin, the 21st Chairman of the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA).

Since its establishment in 1964, KOMCA has been the leading collective management organization for the musical works in Korea, which has been made its effort to develop music culture by way of the protection of right holders for the musical works up to the present.

The current environment of music market has changed and developed a lot in comparison with that of 1990ties when I was the 15th, the 16th and the 17th chairperson. Under this situation, I believe our members have brought me again as the chairperson of KOMCA to reform and jump up in order that KOMCA can adapt to the new copyright surroundings.

Currently, it is reality that we have been branded as the lowest level in terms of copyright protection in the OECD-member countries.

We can use music regardless of time and space, but it is true that the protection of rights for creators has been unsatisfactory while music market has been much got bigger. Majority of people download music illegally without any sense of guilt, moreover some people show off their illegal action. If this situation continues, then creator as well as music industry will be damaged at large. After all, this may cause cultural losses of both nation and people.

Accordingly, KOMCA will do its best to protect rights of creators and root out illegal manufacture, distribution and sales of music. As mobile devices such as MP3 Player, Smart phone, etc are getting popular and new media through telecommunication and its network are being developed, so KOMCA will do its utmost by taking a prompt measure, developing new source for collection of royalties, studying the more transparent distribution system and designing new system to give members satisfaction.

Furthermore, we believe our new computer system to be operated in earnest this year will give members and music users more convenient and efficient service. We will continue to improve to make more convenient and high-quality system in the future.

In the oncoming creative era, the creativity will be the important factor and the role of music creators will become important. Furthermore, music as culture content will make nation' culture competition strong and it will play the most important role in establishing the foundation of cultural and economic power.

Keeping up with this situation, we promise that we'll do our best to carry out our role as a collective management organization for music copyright which represents music creators' rights.
